Celebrating Apprenticeships at Liquid Friday
At Liquid Friday, we are committed to supporting our team’s personal and professional development. Currently, six of our employees are undertaking apprenticeships or other professional qualifications up to degree level, while nine others have successfully completed certifications, from Level 2 apprenticeships to MBAs.
Fun fact! Many of our leaders started their careers as entry-level apprentices, including Dan Blake and Lewis Gosling, who now manage key departments within the business.
For National Apprenticeship Week, 10th -16th February, we’re proud to share three inspiring stories from some of our team members who have benefited from apprenticeships.
Frankie Smith – Customer Service Practitioner Level 2
Frankie describes his apprenticeship as an eye-opening journey that helped him discover his potential and refine his skills. Through the structured learning approach, he gained confidence, improved his organisation, and developed a deep appreciation for customer service.
How has your apprenticeship helped you grow?
“It has helped me grow personally and professionally. I’ve learned to be more organised and to understand the vital role customers play in a business. The apprenticeship gave me the chance to challenge myself and strengthen my weaker areas.”
What progression opportunities have opened up for you?
“During my apprenticeship, I progressed from onboarding to the compliance team, which expanded my knowledge and skills.”
Would you recommend apprenticeships to others?
“Absolutely! It’s a fantastic way to enhance your skills, gain industry knowledge, and grow as a person.”
Jade McDonald – HR Support Level 3, People Professional Level 5 (Ongoing)
Jade’s apprenticeship journey has been transformational, equipping her with both technical HR skills and personal development tools like time management and self-reflection.
How has your apprenticeship shaped your career?
“The knowledge I’ve gained has boosted my confidence in my role. Without my Level 3 apprenticeship, I wouldn’t have considered pursuing my Level 5 qualification. It’s given me the foundation to grow.”
What was the most valuable aspect of your apprenticeship?
“Being able to immediately apply what I learned in my role. Also, networking with apprentices from different industries broadened my understanding of HR across sectors.”
How was the support from your tutor?
“The tutors were fantastic! They provided both professional and personal support, ensuring I felt confident in my abilities. They also accommodated my dyslexia, making sure I fully understood my assignments.”
Sam Pannell – Business Administrator Level 3, Chartered Manager Degree Level 6 (Ongoing)
Sam’s apprenticeship journey spans six years, from an entry-level apprenticeship to a degree program, leading him to a senior leadership role within Liquid Friday.
How has your apprenticeship journey impacted your career?
“I started as an Apprentice Customer Service Advisor and worked my way up to Head of Department in five years. Now, I’m an Operations Manager overseeing all departments. My apprenticeship gave me the skills and confidence to take on these leadership roles.”
What are the main benefits of an apprenticeship?
“At first, I thought the biggest benefit was earning while learning, but it’s so much more than that. Unlike other education systems, apprenticeships allow you to immediately apply what you learn, reinforcing knowledge and making it truly valuable.”
Would you recommend apprenticeships?
“100%! It’s the best way to develop skills and start or advance a career. The relevance of the training to real-world work makes all the difference.”
The value of apprenticeships
These stories highlight the transformative impact of apprenticeships—not just on individuals but on businesses as well. By investing in apprenticeship programs, companies can cultivate skilled, motivated employees while individuals gain the tools they need to build successful careers.
At Liquid Friday, we’re proud to support apprentices at all levels, from entry-level training to advanced qualifications. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance your career, apprenticeships offer a unique and powerful path to success.
Happy National Apprenticeship Week!
