Payroll Giving: a smarter way to support the causes you care about

For many of us, supporting a favourite charity is something that we care about and want to do regularly. Payroll Giving – also known as Give As You Earn – is a simple and tax-efficient way to make a difference, enabling you to donate directly from your salary before tax is deducted.

How it works  

Payroll Giving enables you to make regular donations straight from your gross pay. Because the donation is taken before income tax is applied, you receive immediate tax relief, meaning your contribution goes further without increasing your outgoings by the full amount. 

For example:

  • A £10 donation costs a basic rate (20%) taxpayer £8
  • The same £10 donation costs a higher rate (40%) taxpayer £6

In both cases, the charity still receives the full £10. 

Donations are processed via an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving agency, such as Charitable Giving, which distributes the funds to your chosen charities, making the process seamless for both individuals and organisations. 

Flexible, simple and in your control 

One of the biggest advantages of Payroll Giving is how easy it is to manage. You can:

  • Support any UK-registered charity
  • Donate to multiple charities at once
  • Increase, decrease , or stop your donations at any time. 

Once set up, everything runs automatically though payroll – removing the need to manage one-off payments or direct debits. 

Supporting causes that matter

Payroll Giving supports a wide range of charities, from major national organisations to smaller, local causes. Popular choices include Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, NSPCC and Mind.

This flexibility means that you can choose causes that genuinely matter to you, whether that’s health, mental wellbeing, children’s services or animal welfare.

Payroll Giving is now available as an optional benefit for Liquid Friday contractors on our enhanced service package, delivered in partnership with Charitable Giving.

As part of our broader bolt-on benefits package, which includes options like private healthcare and personal pensions, this gives contractors another way to make their money work smarter. 

Whether it’s supporting a favourite charity or contributing regularly to a cause close to home, it’s a simple addition that can have a meaningful impact.

Getting started is easy: choose your charities, decide how much you’d like to give, complete a short online form and rest is handled for you. Donations are taken directly from your gross pay and distributed securely to your chosen charities.

It’s designed to be flexible, you can amend or stop your donations at any time.
