Liquid Friday supporting channel 4’s exposure of exploitation
Channel 4’s Dispatches, aired Monday 19th January, opened the lid on some of the unethical and immoral practices which can take place in the darker parts of our industry. As an Umbrella company that puts the wellbeing, both personal and financial, centre stage we were appalled at the exploitation uncovered.
In response to the activities highlighted in the programme, Julia Kermode, FCSA’s Chief Executive said;
“Whilst we welcome Channel 4 exposure to bad practice, we also wish to redress the balance because umbrella employment is a positive choice for many. It enables workers to undertake a number of temporary assignments whilst having employment rights, all statutory benefits, and continuity of employment.
FCSA has a rigorous code of conduct that does not tolerate unethical practice, and our members are required to demonstrate compliance annually through an independent review undertaken by experts who are regulated accountants and lawyers. This distinguishes our members from the practices of some other umbrella companies that unfairly tarnish the reputation of our sector.
The message is simple, agencies, contractors and end-hirers concerned about poor practice should choose to work with FCSA members to be assured of the highest possible ethical standards.”
As a member of the FCSA we whole heartedly agree that the actions of these few “Umbrella” companies should not tarnish the reputation and great service our industry delivers to the growing UK flexible workforce.
Liquid Friday hopes that the practices exposed by the Dispatches team will go some way to reinforce, the importance of working with an Umbrella company that places integrity and compliance above all else.
